Good business blogging at Mt. Hood Meadows

One of my local ski resorts had an access highway washed out by rainstorms earlier this month. This is one of the most popular ski/snowboard locations in the state, so people are pretty concerned about whether they’ll be able to ride/ski there this season. The resort GM, Dave Riley, has been a blog hero. He’s […]

b5 business channel is live

Just a quick note to say that the b5media business channel is live. Slacker Manager gets to join an excellent lineup of business-oriented blogs at b5. I’m pretty stoked about it. The channel is launching with seven blogs and many more to come in over the next few weeks.

Network effect (on me)

Well, if you stop by the actual Slacker Manager web page (as opposed to reading the feed), you might have noticed that a few icons have disappeared. Mosts notably, the 9rules leaf is gone from the top right of the page. On the Affiliations page, you’ll see that the 9rules leaf is gone, as well […]

50 great ones

It’s always hard to narrow down great business-oriented blogs to a finite list, so I rarely try to do it. Especially lately, since I’ve been focusing on reading books made of paper more than blogs made of screens. Regardless, Lisa Haneberg has listed 50 business-oriented blogs that she and three others find very useful for […]

FFAF a success

Well, I’m going to declare the first Free For All Friday on Slacker Manager a smashing success! We had eleven contributors and great posts across the board. All the contributed posts can be found at the FreeForAll category. Not all contributors identified themselves in their post, so I’ll probably go back and add credits where […]

Free For All Friday: Contribute to Slacker Manager

Well, today’s the day. Using this link (done) you can register as a contributor to Slacker Manager and publish a post to the blog. This isn’t anarchy, however, and I’m holding contributors to a brief set of guidelines (original explanation here):
publishing posts to the blog. That means that anyone can register and publish to Slacker […]

Free For All Friday…coming up

This coming Friday (August 25, 2006) I’m going to do a little experiment with Slacker Manager. The first post of the day will include a link where you can register as an author on Slacker Manager. I’ll leave this link live all day long and allow unfettered access to publishing posts to the blog. That […]

Lockdown Friday

I’ve been noodling around with the idea of a Free For All Friday on Slacker Manager, just to see what would show up. I was gonna do it tomorrow, but then I noticed that maybe it’s not such a good idea. Guess we’ll stay on lockdown around here for now. You can still comment, though. […]

Good business reading (And listening. And watching)

I’ve got way too many blogs in the old feedreader. I went through the other day and kinda cleaned house (thank you NetNewsWire for the “dinosaurs” feature that makes this tedious task simple and fast) and while I was at it, I was reminded once again of a few content producers (note that I’m not […]

Warriors and Weasels

Interesting new blog that’s promoting a new book: Warriors & Weasels Blog is the blog marketing effort for a new book called Warriors, Workers, Whiners and Weasels, by Tim O’Leary (looks like he’s a local Portland guy).
I haven’t read the book, just browsed the blog. The blog is good reading so far, and the book […]

HigherEdBlogCon chat transcript

Yesterday I was a panelist for a chat about using “New Media In Admissions.” The chat was pretty wide-ranging, but pretty fun. About 40 people dropped in to participate and it seemed pretty successful, if a little bit schizophrenic. I have a tough time managing my attention when I’m chatting with just three people, let […]

666

I installed a sweet plugin the other day which pulls Feedburner and Google Analytics into one summary screen in the Wordpress admin stuff. I love it, very helpful.
For instance, it helps me know that 666 people (aka, The Devil) stopped by the blog yesterday. Didn’t know The Devil read blogs, but I can’t say I’m […]

BlogCon wiki presentation

Monday kicks off the first annual HigherEd BlogCon and it runs all month. It’s an interesting format–each week during the month there’s a new high-level topic with a new batch of presenters. My colleague Sean and I are presenting on the use of wiki during the week of April 17, 2006. The official title of […]

Coffee is for closers!

I’m not a sales guy, but if I were, and I were prone to blogging about it, I would name my blog “Coffee Is For Closers.” There can be no better name for a sales blog. ‘Course there are no sales blogs because the sales guys don’t have time for blogs. A-B-C, baby. A-B-C. A-Always, […]

Latest Carnival

Man, it’s been a long time since I’ve pointed out a Carnival of the Capitalists but here’s the latest, over at Decker Marketing. It’s huge. Honestly, I get the email update each week, but I haven’t actually read through one in a while. They’re getting pretty big, and yet the content still seems to be […]
