Twitter is a deceptively simple utility. That said, Twitter isn’t for everyone. In fact it’s probably not even for half of everyone. But for those that have the patience to find their personal sweet spot, Twitter can be quite good indeed. If you’re not familar with Twitter, it’s pretty easy to describe. It’s instant messaging […]

This is a totally bifurcated post. Part one describes a few recent distractions. Part two is a call for help.
Part one:
I’ve been messing with new toys. Twitter, for one (this is me). You can post from IM, or TXT or via the web. Also, I’m kind of eyeballing Jaiku but haven’t set up an account. […]

If you missed out on getting one of my MindMeister invitations the other day, here’s a second chance. Over at Behind The Glasses, Grigor is giving away 20 more MindMeister invites AND he’s offering interested bloggers a chance to participate in a shared mindmap about the future of blogging. Go forth and mindmap!

Remember when blogs were so controversial in big companies? Now there are tons of execs blogging and hardly anyone blinks. I think there’s also been a shift in the way people view blogs, particularly those written by corporate types. Personal blogs still feel personal, but corporate blogs….uh….don’t.
I was visiting friends in San Diego last weekend […]

I don’t know anything about football–I didn’t even know that the Super Bowl was last weekend until someone told me last Friday. But I always like checking out the commercials. Which is kinda weird since I don’t really watch TV much. But whatever. Here’s an embedded player that has 30 of last weekend’s commercials in […]

I’ve spent the better part of the last couple of hours browsing LinkedIn Answers and asking myself, “How could I have overlooked this?!” It is simply awesome. The deal is that you submit a question to your network, wait for the answers to roll in, then “close” the thread by awarding a respondent a green […]

I’m enroute to Vegas today and will be there all week. Probably not much time for blogging. I thought I’d put this cool new SplashCast player here and just dump more media into it throughout the week. SplashCast is at DEMO today, showing this thing off. I was lucky enough to get an early account.
Keep […]

David Lorenzo has a great post about the power of face to face meetings. I wholly agree with his assessment that passion is best expressed in person.
I’m all about email and IM and, when I must, the phone. For several months (until yesterday, actually) I even had a polycom unit set up on the corner […]

I’ve been a fan of Laurence Haughton’s writing and thinking for a while. He’s got a new webcast coming up on January 30, 2007 at 9:00 AM PT / Noon ET. The title is More Buy-In for New Ideas and Innovations: A strategy to overcome resistance to change and improve follow-through. Should be a […]

Business blogs are pretty awesome. The people who write them are always on the lookout for new books and ideas. I’m the same way (yeah, I’m pretty awesome, too). When I read business blogs, I usually read most, if not all, of the comments on a post that interests me.
So I’ve been noticing that […]

What follows is probably going to be controversial. And it will probably be taken out of context, or dismissed out-of-hand because of the name of this blog. But what I’m going to tell you is both subtle and powerful and must not be misused or abused, though I’m quite sure it will be and probably […]

Really great YouTube clip of Tony Buzan holding forth on the features and benefits of mindmapping. Fascinating stuff from the master himself….
Relatedly, for utter information overload, check out this list of mindmapping tools. Or, check out this relatively recent list of narrowed down options. That second list turned me onto Gliffy, which is best described […]

I wrote about “procrascipline” (disciplined procrastination) a while ago, and then I mentioned it as one of the guiding principles of the Slacker@Work.
I’ve got to say, as a manager I sometimes use procrascipline to my advantage. And sometimes I just totally blow it and forget stuff. From the outside, it kinda looks the same. Only […]

Just to keep the creative juices flowing, I’m firing up another little web project. Nothing earth shaking, but I think it’ll be fun. It’s Yamhill.TV. This is an “internet TV channel” for Yamhill County, Oregon (where I live). I’ll interview interesting local people, check out some events in the area, etc. I just released the […]
