Sunday Management Roundup

by Phil Gerbyshak on June 28th, 2008

I got some good feedback about my last Sunday Link Love, so I thought I’d do another one for you this week. Thanks to TexasEx94, Armin, and Miki for your encouragement on last week’s post.

Lisa Haneberg created How to Hire a Manager. If you’re looking to hire a manager because you’re getting promoted? According to Lisa, this will serve the whole organization.

Scot Herrick reminds us to do something productive every day. A great reminder to get out of the firefighter mode I fall into as an IT manager.

Rosa Say encourages us to Ka la hiki ola to make it yours. The dawning of a new day and having a can-do attitude are definitely important to where I’m sitting right now. When you click in, be sure to check out the way Rosa and many others use the cool tool VoiceThread.

Frank Roche tells us to pitch our policy manuals. Here’s a snippet of Frank’s great advice:

Throw away your policy manuals. Write some big statements about what you value and what’s out of bounds. Let everyone know what’s expected and don’t tolerate what you won’t stand for.

Steve Roesler reminds us that when we’re communicating with our associate’s, vanilla isn’t really safe. Steve shares some words that have no meaning when talking to your team, thus they end up being very vanilla and nearly meaningless.

Last but not least, please let my co-editor here at Slacker Manager David Zinger know what 1 business book you’re going to read this summer. You ARE going to keep learning this summer and not just sit on the beach, right?

Please share your best links for the week in the comments section so we can all get smarter! Don’t be afraid to shamelessly promote yourself, just leave 1 link in the comments. HTML is ok. :)
