6 Things You Don’t Know About David Zinger
I tend to keep my blogging for this site and my employee engagement site professional with minimal self-disclosure.
I am very comfortable with disclosure but I will do this on www.diehappytoday.com - my site for happiness and personal development.
A while back on Slacker Manager, Phil laid down the challenge to write about 6 things you don’t know about me. So here it is.
Grab a beer or a coffee if you prefer and have a more personal insight into 1/2 of Slacker Manager.
- Yes, my last name really is Zinger. Like Phil I am also colorblind and I have used the pink ball as a cue ball in pool and friends love to ask me what color things appear to me.
- I have 3 children ages 18, 16, and 16. I am the father of twins and I deliberately designed my work to work out of home for most of what I do. I have worked out of home for almost 30 years - so I guess I was on the forefront of that movement.
- I worked as an employee counsellor for about 15 years in a distillery and yes they even gave us free alcohol at Christmas time and before summer. I have taught counselling psychology courses for about 20 years for a few different universities.
- I have won lots of prizes in contests. I used to enter lots of contests many years ago and I think the secret to winning is not luck as much as it is entering often. I am too involved in our work to enter many contest anymore, but I still keep winning a few small prizes. I had 6 of 7 number on a $20 million dollar Canadian lottery. I missed the 7th number by just 2 digits. After this, I asked myself if I would stop working if I won and the answer was no…I love what I do and plan to do it for a long time yet.
- I do a lot of professional speaking and have done so for about 20 years. I can stand up in front of 5,000 people and feel right at home. I am also an introvert and I am very comfortable with my introversion yet I can step out of it because I care so much for people when I speak.
- I love the air: I had a private pilot licence, I parachuted, I climbed mountains, I love to run outside even in 30 below, and I have flown a glider. Even though I fly a lot during the year for work I still love getting on every flight!

Thanks for sharing. I think it is TERRIFIC that you have been able to work from home for so long. I’m sure there are some drawbacks to it, but …. I think I would love to do that. Especially with my boys being 7 and 12. I’m sure there’s a way! And you’ve inspired me to look into the possibility. It’s never too late for change, right?

PHIL: Thanks for asking me to play.
MIKE: For me, there are very few drawbacks. Of coure when I started there was no Internet and I love how I can be connected to so many people while working at home. It is NEVER EVER to late to change.
