5 Management ZINGERS - Vol 1. No1
Management ZINGERS from Slacker Manager offers you 5 eclectic resources on management. Each of the 5 ZINGERS will include:
- the title or author of the post with a click-able link to the article
- a short comment about the post
- a snippet from the actual post.
It is a real dilemma with so much information to determine what to read.
I offer Management ZINGERS as a short cut and time saver that distills the vast amount of management information I monitor to the articles that really stood out for me and will be of benefit to you. I encourage you to add your own article link in the comment section for something that stood out for you.
I strongly encourage you to visit each site and read the post and if you have not read work from this site before to spend some time looking at the other information and resources. We are so fortunate to have so many people offering so much to managers and leaders to develop our full potential.

- Work is Broken: Here is How We Fix It was written as a Change This Manifesto by Marc Orchant. Unfortunately Marc died last year but I believe his manifesto and contribution will live on. It is a powerful manifesto on how to fix meetings, presentations, and email. Here is his conclusion to the manifesto: I’ll admit these topics have become something of an obsession for me. I write about them in my blogs, have gotten involved in developing curriculum to teach some of these principles to others, and am continually engaged in refining and reinventing more effective processes at my company. It’s all too easy to tell yourself you can’t change the way things are. But you can. Make an agreement with yourself that you will invest the time, energy, and discipline to make your life less stressful. How much would that be worth to you? To paraphrase the MasterCard commercial, my answer is “priceless.” Thank you Marc, you will be missed.
- 20 Tips for a Positive New Year from Jon Gordon. Jon is the author of the energy bus and he provides 20 quick tips to make 2008 great. Here is item number 9: Dream more while you are awake.
- The Real Secret of Success from Michael McKinney is a short review of Brain Tracy’s The Flight Plan. There is no SECRET here, success takes much work and planning. Chapter 2: Review Your Flight Plan Options: You are only as free as your well-developed options. Continually develop options. Hope is not a strategy.
- Innovation Lesson From the Apprentice by Stephen Shapiro. I always enjoy reading Stephen. This post based on a recent Apprentice show focused on selling hot dogs. You will learn a hot dog is more than you think: Stop micro-managing activities and make sure that every employee understands – and keeps their eyes on - business fundamentals and what matters most. This will enhance both creativity and overall business performance.
- The End of A Great Ride is the last post from Bud Bilanich, the common sense guy. Bud is going to focus on his coaching and development work at http://www.successcommonsense.com/. This is a fine example of saying no to something to say yes to something more important. From the last post: Straight Talk is an outgrowth of my Success Common Sense blog. In it, I describe and explore the five elements of a successful life and career: Self Confidence, Positive Personal Impact, Outstanding Performance, Communication Skills, and Interpersonal Competence.
What ZINGER or ZINGERS stood out for you recently? Write a comment and leave a link. Thank you for helping us find good material through the power of a “positive comment human search.” Adding the human element missing in search engines.

David, liked “The Real Secret of Success” pointer. I like such sort of check lists. If you picked this one you must love the one at http://thebookshare.blogspot.com/ by JD Meier.

Alik,
Thank you for the link it was a very well written summary of the first 90 days for leaders. This also fits well with Slacker’s post this week on the first 100 days.
