Our conundrum with so much information is to determine what to read. Management ZINGERS from Slacker Manager offers you eclectic resources on management. Ten Questions With Garr Reynolds is an interview of 13 questions by Guy Kawasaki on making effective presentations. When you are called upon to make a presentation I recommend you at least come back and read Garr so you are not going “grrrrr awful” after you present. Here is question 12 and part of Garr’s answer:

Question: What is the single most important thing people could do to enhance their presentations? Answer: Turn off the computer, grab some paper and a pencil, and find someplace quiet. Think of the audience. What is it they need? What is it you want to say that they need to hear. Identify what’s important and what is not. You can’t say everything in a twenty-minute talk—or even a two-hour talk.

5 Leadership Lessons: What is Your Intention? by Michael McKinney provides a quick overview of Greg Hicks of Foster, Hicks and Associates and author of LeaderShock. Leader Shock occurs when we are overwhelmed, overloaded and overstressed- we find ourselves so busy doing that we don’t take time to choose our attitude. Michael outlines the 5 leadership lessons on intention, here is number 2:

Choosing your day isn’t about denying problems, sugarcoating them, or guaranteeing specific results. It’s about intensifying your focus on that which is uplifting and self affirming.

Introducing the Personal Marketing Plan - Part 1 of 5 by Dan Schawbel is the first of a 5 part series on become a brand new you. Dan takes us through a process of how to market ourselves as a personal brand.

Guess what? Your brand should have it’s own marketing plan. A plan that you can execute for a successful career. When you combine this plan with a development plan, you have mastered the discovery phase of personal branding.

Top 10 Reasons People Hate Work is a helpful post by Dr. Ellen Webber at Brain Based Business. It is very challenging to manage people who hate work and this list gives you some of the signs to look for in preventing or addressing why people may hate their work. Here is item number 4 from Ellen’s list:

Problems rarely get solved and so people tend to complain and vent. Recognize the vent for what it really is and begin to offer solutions for any problem you encounter.

Be An Inspiring Student Leader by Tim Milburn is directed at student leaders but are we not all students of leadership? Here is number 7 from Tim’s 7 points based on a Business Week Article:

Encourage potential. Each person has unique strengths and talents. Find out what they are and figure out a way for them to be used. If someone is starting to show potential in a certain area, give them an opportunity to experiment in that area to see if they can improve.
