I just got spiked by SpikeSource and the Intel was “No”tel.
SpikeSource has created a web 2.0 platform called SuiteTwo powered by Intel. I was excited to see what they had put together. They offered a free 2 week trial:
Free SuiteTwo Trial…Free two week hosted trial of SuiteTwo, powered by Intel. No installation, no obligation…Experience the 1st fully integrated Web 2.0 suite that delivers tightly integrated industry leading software for blogs, wikis, RSS and more. Complete with a unified, easy-to-use interface and navigation…
I completed the form yesterday and was contacted by one of their representatives who told me they were not offering the 2 week free trial but I could purchase the suite.
In the world of Web 2.0 this is no way to form a community or build support with broken promise. I went from excitement to irritation.
The lesson for managers:
- What promises are you making to your customers and your staff?
- If you can’t keep your promise don’t make it.
- Are you keeping your promises?

Promises, promises. Sad stuff really. Why don’t companies get it? Make a promise = keep a promise. Quite simple.
Some managers don’t too. Should we change our expectations just because many don’t meet them, or should we urge that folks step up and stay true to their word?

Hmm, the real reason why they said no to a trial is something else. You see, if you actually get to see the “product”, you will never, ever buy it. ;-)
And no guesses for knowing how I am so sure.

I would have liked to have seen the platform. I can’t comment on it never having seen it but I am disappointed that it was not available.

Hi, David
Thanks for your post.
I was surprised to read that you were not offered the free trial of SuiteTwo and I would like to apologize for that misstep; it should not have happened.
Free trials are an important way for prospective users, analysts and the press to assess the features and benefits of a technology as ground-breaking as SuiteTwo.
As you would expect, we welcome the opportunity to illustrate the breadth and depth of our platform.
I’ve asked one of our reps to follow-up with you first thing this morning to discuss an evaluation plan.
Again, please accept our apologies. We look forward to moving you forward with a trial later today.
Regards,
-John
