Management: Batting 5 for 5

by David Zinger on November 24th, 2007

Can you hit 5 for 5?

I have always liked the number 5. Perhaps it was because I could count that high on one hand.

Here are 5 for 5 hits that we can use to bat 1000 in management.

1. High Fives. Make sure each day that you take 5 moments to pass on at least 5 high fives to other people. You don’t have to actually slap their hand but let them know they are making a difference.

2. 5 Line Emails.  Leo Babauta reduces his emails to a maximum of 5 lines…strive for 5 line emails.

3.  Get Five-Alive. Get juiced on management with 5 different sources of energy: mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and organizational.

4. Apply the D5M. Rosa Say also loves 5 and her daily 5 minutes (D5M) is indispensable for managers. Instead of looking for mental disorders with the DSM4 or the planned DSM5, allocate 5 minutes each day to someone who reports to you where they can set the agenda and you are open to learning, assisting, and coaching them.

5. Get up at 5. Okay, this is not for everyone but I know when I get up at 5 that I can get a whole lot done between five and nine o’clock in the morning.

It seems fitting given the nature of this article that Slacker Manager is part of the B5 Media.

What are 5 things you can do to be a better Slacker Manager?

    I especially like number 2.

Five line emails seem like an odd but creative way to comment and show you care. Writers don’t necessarily have trouble struggling with what to say or lines to fill up, but they do sometimes struggle with tapering and cutting back our “wordiness.”

    There. I just filled up a five-liner.

    Bridget,

Way to go 5 lines. Live what you talk about. High 5 to you!
