Slacker Manager

Slacker & The Office (NBC)

by David Zinger on September 25th, 2007

This summer my wife and I watched all the DVD episodes of the NBC’s Office, from the very first episode.

We got hooked on the characters, satire and parody of office work. Many people I know preferred the British Office series - as Canadians we are divided between the old British Office and the American Office.

Are there any lessons for Slacker Managers to learn from The Office?

Sometimes the inappropriateness and awkwardness almost makes me squirm and yet I find that there is a certain likability in the lovable buffoons, and a strange attraction to see how things unfold.

This year, Michael Scott, the manager concerned about an office curse will get the season off to a running start with a 5K run.

If you want to see 4 short preview snippets of this episode visit: http://www.nbc.com/The_Office/.

I am curious:

  • What do you think about The Office?
  • Do you have a character you love or hate?
  • Do any people at your actual office remind you of these characters?
  • Do you have a favorite episode?
  • Is The Office entertainment or a waste of your time.
  • Will you follow the series this season?

I have visited your site. I liked the interview with one of the writers, well done. So we have one vote for Creed and my wife like Jim.

Love The Office. Toby is my favorite, based on the fact that he is not overused and is always the voice of reason in the Michael Scott world of the bizarre.

My favorite episode is the one when Michael celebrates Oscar’s “Mexican-ness”, with the fiesta.

Pure entertainment, especially for those that have lived in any kind of office for a while.

I love it. Funniest show since Seinfeld. Like Faith Popcorn said, “The trouble in corporate America is that too many people with too much power live in a box (their home), then travel the same road every day to another box (their office).”

So Far: Toby, Creed, & Jim. Scott, I thought the episode was very well done even when I cringed. From one box to another box, why think outside of the box when you can simply move from box to box.

Michael Scott taught me to always find the “win win win” in any conflict.

Hey, that is 3 “i” in wins. Michael would be proud of you and we all know he is the master of conflict or at least of creating conflict!

I Love the office and can’t get enough of Dwight Schroot. I totally agree with Quotes who said The Office is the funniest show since Seinfeld.
