Have you tried Google’s New Presentation/Slide Tool?

by David Zinger on September 19th, 2007

Do you have a Google account? If so, have you tried out their new beta product to compete with PowerPoint?

I encourge you to go use Presentation. If you go to Google docs you will find it under your new doc menu. I spent a few minutes with it today. It is not as powerful as PowerPoint but I assume it will grow and develop. See the one slide I created and how Google will make it easy to publish your slides: http://docs.google.com/TeamPresent?fs=true&docid=dcjs3sd7_14cpkv56

I would love to read your reactions to this product:

  • Do you like it?
  • Will you use it?
  • What does it need?

David Zinger may be sliding over to Google Presentation more often.

    David,

Presentation is an interesting little gadget. It provides very basic functionality, but I liked that you could manage the layers of items on a page.

I personally use features like the speaker notes and also like to use builds for visual interest, but for a majority of presentations, this tool would suffice!

    Thanks Mike,

I wonder if it will grow from a gadget to something much bigger. I like that is is very easy to share but I still see myself using PowerPoint for slide presentations.

I was quite impressed with how easy it was to use, admittedly it is quite pared down in comparison to MS Powerpoint, but a nice and free alternative. My blog post on it here: http://www.lo-fi-librarian.co.uk/?p=706

It is easy to use and it does a decent job of importing PowerPoint files. Like Mike, I create my speaker’s notes in PP. That would be a feature I’d like to see added soon. I like the chat box in the presentation mode and could see using that as part of delivery a long-distance presentation.

    David,

I’d like to see it grow in functionality. The great thing about Google docs is group collaboration. Being able to work on the same document simultaneously with people around the world is very slick! The functionality may not be much more than basic utilitarian, but that’s a differentiator.

I was going to try Lotus Symphony Presentations, but the downloader refused to work.
