5 Ways to Create Management Breakthroughs in 5 minutes or less
by admin on June 22nd, 2007
Inspired by Lisa Haneberg’s Year of the Breakthrough, I thought I’d share my thoughts on 5 ways to create management breakthroughs. For best breakthroughs, repeat every day!
Spend 5 minutes with each member of your team, and ask them about their life. When people know you care about them, and you take a little time to invest in their life and their goals, soon, they’ll begin investing in your goals and your life.
Close your eyes and think about all the GREAT things your team has done this week. Take the time to smell the roses your team created this week, and think of all the lemons they turned into lemonade, many without involving you.
Take 5 minutes to fill up everyone on your team’s coffee (or water) cup. Serving first is a great way to show your team how much you care. Especially if you know who drinks coffee and who drinks water before you get started.
Write as many thank you notes as you can to your team, for just 5 minutes. Be specific in your thank you notes, and let them know just how much you care about them. Not everyone does something exemplary every day, but timely thank yous go a LONG way to showing your team your appreciation.
Take 5 minutes to sort through your e-mail inbox in a new way. Try sorting email by who they are from, and put them in appropriate folders based on who’s working on the issue. Put them out of sight, even if you need to work on them again later, and you’ll free your mind for breakthroughs. Are you willing to try my ideas or do you have better ones? I’d love to hear what you have to say. Share your favorite 5 minute management breakthroughs below.
