Simple tools
I will freely admit to you right here, right now, that I’ve been very relaxed…inconsistent, even…about reading my pile of RSS feeds. I think I have too many of them and I get frightened when I fire up Google Reader and see “100+” next to every category folder. Ugh. So the result is that I start going old-skool and actually visiting websites and blogs. Can you believe that?! I’m seeing some of your designs out there and they’re quite nice, really.
Anyway, one of the blogs I have long loved is 43folders. I won’t lie to you. I might have a little bit of a man-crush on Merlin. Back to the topic at hand, though: simple tools. I was checking out the blog and came across an excellent video clip from Merlin’s new venture, The Merlin Show, in which Merlin talks to Jeff Veen, formerly of Adaptive Path, now of Google, about lo-fi capture, meeting management and other topics. It’s an excellent interview for managers to watch, since Jeff is clearly a great one.
Merlin’s in San Francisco, which is a bit of a tech hub, so he has some easy access to a lot of interesting folks. I wish there was someone who’d do similar fun and engaging videos of other good managers, across a wide spectrum of industry, but I guess that’d be tough. Tough to find them and tougher to find them all in one place. Still, a guy can dream.

This is a great idea. I would highly encourage you to take on just an endeavor. You could start it out as Podcasts or simply written interviews. I am sure that if you started to actively look for interview subjects they just might start to pop right out in front of you.
Good luck and I hope to be seeing some interviews soon.

Bren,
Great post. I watched the same interview and found it fascinating. Merlin seems to be doing a very good job with his show.
I agree, a similar show for managers would be great.
