Slacker Manager

Good business blogging at Mt. Hood Meadows

by Bren on November 21st, 2006

One of my local ski resorts had an access highway washed out by rainstorms earlier this month. This is one of the most popular ski/snowboard locations in the state, so people are pretty concerned about whether they’ll be able to ride/ski there this season. The resort GM, Dave Riley, has been a blog hero. He’s been keeping regular updates, with pictures, about the road rebuilding progress. Hearing about progress directly from the General Manager, rather than a PR flack, is so refreshing. Riley sometimes sounds kinda dorky (”They have lots of big yellow equipment.”), but what blogger hasn’t sounded dorky?

I’m really stoked to see this kind of productive blogging. Riley really seems to understand his audience and he’s definitely hooking into a topic they care about. Check out the comment threads on some of those posts! My only advice is to stop using the word “blog” in place of the word “post.” That’s like describing each railcar on a train as “the train” (let’s move forward to the next train). Just a pet peeve of mine and it doesn’t detract from the quality of what Riley is doing.
