Network effect (on me)
Well, if you stop by the actual Slacker Manager web page (as opposed to reading the feed), you might have noticed that a few icons have disappeared. Mosts notably, the 9rules leaf is gone from the top right of the page. On the Affiliations page, you’ll see that the 9rules leaf is gone, as well as the AllBusiness.com logo.
The short answer is that Slacker Manager is moving to the b5 media network.
The long answer is that I finally got tired of doing my own tech support with the blog. My lame design eye, combined with my utter lack of programming knowledge made for some frustrating hours that could’ve been better spent with the kids or, hey!, writing posts. No more messing with design, plugins or monetization. I can just write and be satisfied.
The b5 crew have been very accomodating in getting the blog moved over to their mothership. It was a little rough, technically, in the beginning, but the blog has been on their server since last week. In the next few weeks there will probably be a bit of design change on the web page. Readers of the feed shouldn’t notice anything different. Nothing else will change here–same old Brendon, doing the same old schtick. But maybe better, since I’ll have more time to write. Right.
In somewhat related news, b5 media has raised a $2 million round of venture financing (more commentary here). Moving Slacker Manager and the big money have nothing to do with each other, unfortunately for me. Although it does mean that the folks at b5 will have even more dedicated folks to look after the guts of all those blogs.
And in case you’re wondering, I still dig those wacky 9rules folks. I tried to be part of both networks, but apparently one of the 9 rules is that 9rules doesn’t co-exist with other networks. So no luck there. And I also still dig and support AllBusiness.com, but I had enough with the double-posting, and this seemed like a good time to stop the madness. You read right: double posting. AllBusiness didn’t want to just syndicate content, so I had to do the copy/paste dance–when I remembered. And just for the record, I really do like WordPress better than MovableType.

Congratulations. I’d love to hear a post later on about the benefits of being in the network, and how it works for you.

Hi Bren,
Glad to you hear you are doing better. I can totally relate to the issues with supporting your own blog, it is a time waster when your focus is elsewhere.
As well I recently was on 9rules.com and noticed that much of their content isn’t getting refreshed very often. I even checked technology and productivity and both are dry as a bone. Just a few posts in the last few months.
Anyway, you never know what is happening but I do wonder. I don’t imagine a few tech posts is much value.
Good luck with b5. I read Darren’s stuff and its pretty good. I even gave him a hard time and he dropped in to let me know he was watching and respected my thoughts. Was very impressed.
Cheers
Roger
