Looking for a web-based calendar
I’m looking for a web-based calendar that allows users to build event templates. I can’t find one. I’ve looked at I-can’t-tell-you-how-many web calendars in the last week or so and nothing seems to have this particular feature. In addition to the standard features you find on web calendars, the features I need are:
- Multiple users (important, but not a deal-breaker)
- Option for user-built templates (keep reading for more detail on this)
- Tasks could be nice, but not needed
- RSS would be a nice perk
The user built event template option that I’m looking for is pretty simple. And I’m okay with hacking some files to get it–doesn’t need to be a part of the “official” feature set. I need to get a template that has three or four data fields (location, attendees, shipping info, lodging info). A map link would be cool, but it’s a perk.
If you know of something that fits the bill, would you mind dropping a note in the comments? I’d be grateful.

Yahoo calendar has an option that allows your to share certain events with a specified user/s. Google calendar has the feature that you are looking for. Just go to the create event function and your there.

Have a look at Airset - http://www.airset.com - which allows you to set up groups, events etc.
There is also Contact Office - http://www.contactoffice.com - which is pretty similar.
I’m not sure whether they offer the “template” functionality you require though.

Thanks, everyone. Those are all pretty cool and, with the exception of Google Calendar, I hadn’t tried them before. As far as I can tell though, none of them allow users to make custom event templates.
Ron, G-calendar is probably what will end up being used, but even it doesn’t allow for custom event templates.
I’ll keep looking…

I currently use 30boxes - http://30boxes.com/ - which can do all the things you want (I think– I know you can do a lot of theming, though I’m not sure if that extends to customizing the event template).
It definitely does map links, user sharing, RSS…

GCal (google calendar) may not do it by itself, but given a little ingenuity and one of the page modification engines (Greasemonkey for Mozilla, Creammonkey for safari, etc.) adding a template to the event add window might work…

http://www.trumba.com/ supports adding custom fields to your events - (how to at http://www.trumba.com/help/filter/fieldshow.html), multiple users, rss feeds.
They don’t have any plans to add tasks, their are some import / export / sync issues if you don’t use the USA date format, and isn’t free ($9.95/month per user who requires author rights on your calendar(s))

Have a look at Quickbase (www.quickbase.com). May be more than you need. Very cool app.

Airset is pretty nice. If you can install stuff, and you have PHP/MySQL you can install http://extcal.sourceforge.net/ is great.
