Slacker Manager pimp-styles
If you visit the actual Slacker Manager blog (as opposed to reading RSS), you’ll know that there are a few ads on the sidebar. Google Adsense ads have been there for a while, and I occassionally put up the Basecamp banner when I’m feeling lotsa love for it. The RSS feed has an occasional ad in it–every fourth item, or something like that.
Over the last few months I’ve gotten several requests about advertising on the site. Until now I hadn’t set up anything to accomodate those requests. On occasion, if I liked something I’d put it on my del.icio.us sidebar links. If I REALLY loved it, I’d end up using it or buying it and when I really like something I usually blog it.
Anyway, in order to accomodate those occasional requests, I’ve set up an account with TextLinkAds. I’ll let it run for a couple of months and see if it meets the needs of those folks who’d like to advertise here. TextLinkAds is pretty neat–I get to review and approve or decline all advertisements, so you’ll never see junky stuff. The ad placement is pretty prime, even if I do say so myself. It’s “above the fold”, meaning no scrolling is needed to see the ad, on the far right sidebar. The CSS is kinda funky right now, but I’ll soon have a highlighted area around the text ads to better display them. The ads show on the roughly 18,000 pages of Slacker Manager. They currently run $60 for one month. No messing with clickthrough rates, etc. Just a flat fee. There are currently eight spots available. If there’s sufficient interest, I may expand the quantity available, or I may put links on specific categories. Not sure. Also not sure whether I want to spend much time thinking about it, frankly. The TextLinkAds thing is super simple and takes very little of my time, and that’s why it’s so appealing.
So there you go. If you want to advertise on Slacker Manager, go here.

I had a terrible time with “text link ads” - namely that it wouldn’t work! I installed the code and 2 weeks later it was still showing the default text, I contact support there who had me re-install it. Still nothing.
I wouldn’t have minded so much but I know I didn’t do anything wrong and it just looked darn silly with the “test link ad” text sat there all the time so now it’s gone bye-bye.
Hope you have better luck (and make a tonne of money!)
