- David Allen: This is funny…blue-collar Palm The David posts a link to a pic and gets slammed by Barbara Ehrenreich (Nickel and Dimed). The whole comment thread is funnier than the actual picture, with people claiming their redneck roots. Awesome.

I think many of the responses bring up an important point. Many of the defenders of political correctness have no idea how the comments are affecting the supposed victims. The majority of us have a pretty thick skin and enjoy making fun of ourselves or joining in with some lighthearted humor that singles out our class, religion, race, etc. Polish people enjoy a good polish joke, Catholics like a good Catholic joke, rednecks…etc. I wish people would stop being so PC, especially those that are “third party offended”, a common term that used in sexual harrassment.
I recall a professor of mine in a MBA economics course was forced to leave the program after suggesting a female student decided to make Michael Jordan t-shirts rather than go-go dancing to explain the concept of opportunity costs. It was light-hearted and the female student singled out was not bothered. However, another female classmate was offended (although it was not obvious while the class was in progress), so much so that she complained formally. I think the response was a bit heavy handed.
Enough seriousness. Since I am Irish and Catholic, let me end with the following favorites:
“Wherever their are four Catholics, there is a fifth.”
“What is an Irish seven course meal?”
“A potato and a six pack.”

You’re right - the discussion was very entertaining.
Through many years of marriage, I have learned that pretty much anything I say can get me in trouble, and that my comments are often taken way differently than I intended.
I grew up in Louisiana and am half Cajun - politically correct down there means you voted for the winner. Our culture has always made fun of itself, and the best Cajun jokes come from Cajuns. Of course, we also made up some of the best Aggie jokes, too.

That wasn’t Barbara Ehrenreich; it was just someone who filled that name into the comment box.

You need to put TITLES on your entries. SOME of us ACTUALLY use

@Fact Checker, good catch. Probably wasn’t Ehrenreich, but it’s still funny to think that she’d do a comment slam.
@’yo dude’: sorry, you’ll just have to figure out that posts with titles like this are just auto-posted straight out of del.icio.us because I’m too lazy, bored or otherwise distracted to write a real post. Sorry to disappoint.
