New logo
Just a little administrivia here…you may notice the new header logo image here. This comes courtesy of Mike Rohde who surprised me yesterday with the new logo. I’m stoked–it loads much faster than the old logo and kinda hits you in the face with that gi-normous font treatment.
Thanks again, Mike!

The new header is quite striking- and now some comments from the peanut gallery. The text looks a little blurry, and I think it’s because of jpeg compression. You might try breaking it into two images- a gif for the text portion that will preserve maximum sharpness, and a jpeg for the image portion resulting in the best image quality with smallest size.

Thanks Brian! You catch that, Mike?
I’d work on it myself if I had a clue about graphics jive…

Thanks Brian — I considered that approach, but left it as a single file for simplicity. I didn’t want to put Bren in the position of having to hack his templates for two images up there.
Because of the way TypePad adds banners (they’re included in the CSS for the banner up there) it would require the addition of another on each page and a bit of code to the CSS stylesheets to do. I kind of felt Bren might not want to go to that trouble for the header is all. :-)
Now Bren, what I can do is export the same file at a higher quality level — it will be slightly larger, but that crispness of type will be better.
Let me know what you prefer to do…

Thanks for fixing that. It has greatly reduced the time it takes to read your page.
Best regards,

Hello! The new file looks great. I hope I didn’t sound persnickety.

Persnickety?
My grandma told me that was a real word, but I didn’t believe her.
I like the new banner. If anyone wants to offer their free services to Orbit Now! I’m interested.

I’m so happy that you use the word ‘jive’: “I’d work on it myself if I had a clue about graphics jive…” It must be a family thing: I call lip balm ‘lip jive’ due to your sister - she’s a funny one.

Brian, no probs, it was good, constructive criticism. Thanks for catching the roughness of the first edition! Turns out I was able to keep the size still reasonably small and improve the sharpness too. :-)
