No need for localism.org?
Hmm… Just ran across Bloggers Without Borders, via Scoble. Looks like a great effort that’s been tossed around a bit, and it’s a lot like what I was thinking of for Localism.org.
I’ve been thinking a bit about the Localism.org concept, and I wonder if it’s just better to make it an online ad agency? Just solicit ads, let bloggers post them, and pass the revenue to international charitable organizations. It’s kinda the same concept as I mentioned earlier, but without the overhead of maintaining blogs. Of course, it brings it’s own overhead…
Anyway, I’m still working on the incorporation as a non-profit. A kindly reader pointed me to a few resources, including this book, which I’ve got on hold at the library.
Truth is, this project scares me because I don’t want to become consumed by it, and I don’t have the technical skills to pull it off on my own. The big hurdle right now is getting over the incorporation, I guess. Then it’ll be on to finding some kind of bloggish benefactor.
Well, it’ll be a good experience at the least. :-)

Hey
Just to make sure - are you still motivated or what’s the next step?
All the best

Yeah, that’s a valid question, considering the tone of that post, eh? :-)
Yep, I’m still motivated! I’m going to stick with the original idea because it’s what I know best.
I believe the next step, which I’ll be working on next week, is to get incorporated as a non-profit. The whole concept kinda hinges around that understanding, so it’s important to get done. I’ve got a few great leads on getting this done, so I’ll be posting whatever I discover.
Once the incorporation is done, then I think it’d be time for a serious discussion about sponsorship with the TypePad folks, or other hosted service.
Hope that makes sense…
